Brief: Boat Capsizes Off St. Croix, Woman Missing

April 26, 2009 — A woman is missing after a boat capsized off St. Croix Sunday evening.
St. Croix police marine units responded to the scene of a capsized boat at about 5:45 p.m. Preliminary reports indicate that a 25-foot boat carrying three men and one woman began taking on water about 2:30 p.m. and capsized, according to a V.I. Police Department news release. The boat was about 1,000 feet off the south shore of St. Croix in the area of the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport. The three men swam to shore and contacted police.
One man was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. Still missing is a 45-year-old woman. Police contacted the U.S. Coast Guard, which also responded with a helicopter and a vessel to assist in the search for the missing person. The search was called off at 9:30 p.m. and was set to resume at 5 a.m. Monday.
