Christensen To Help Open Health Summit in D.C.

April 24, 2009 — Delegate Donna M. Christensen and Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.) will deliver opening remarks at next week's Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.
The conference runs Monday and Tuesday, Christensen said in a press release issued Thursday.
"It is imperative that we discuss topics such as our current health equity issues especially at a time when our nation’s demographics are changing the impact of our nation’s health and health polices that exist in urban, dnvironmental, education and economic policies. As always, I want to make certain that health disparity elimination and health equity are on the platform," Christensen said.
This year's conference theme is "The Emerging Majority and The U.S. Health System: The Paradigm Shift Begins." The conference is held in coordination with the National Minority Quality Forum and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.
The conference includes discussions on why health disparities should be relevant to everyone, tackling the social determinants of health and more.
The summit features a special presentation of the documentary, “The Deadliest Disease in America."
"It's about the whole health disparity issue in which people who are poor, minorities or live in isolated areas do not have access to quality affordable health care," Christensen spokesman Monique Clendinen-Watson said of the documentary.
According to Christensen, she and her congressional colleagues have been working hard to ensure that the nation’s forthcoming health reform efforts result in the betterment of every citizen’s health and wellness.
Christensen chairs the Braintrust, which focuses on racial and ethnic health disparities.
