CFVI Invites Students to Apply for Windward Capital Summer Scholarships

April 15, 2009 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands invites public and private school students in the 10th and 11th grades to apply for the Windward Capital 2009 Summer Enrichment Program Scholarship.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Windward Capital Fund at CFVI will award scholarships to students seeking to attend academically rigorous summer enrichment programs at stateside institutions of higher learning. Since introducing the Summer Enrichment Scholarships in 2004, more than $75,000 in scholarships has been awarded to high school students in the territory. This scholarship is funded solely by Windward Capital LLC, a financial services firm located in the Grand Hotel on St. Thomas.
The fund was established to enhance the educational experiences of children and youth in the U.S.V.I. This is one of over 90 funds that have been established through the CFVI to serve the children and families of the V.I.
To qualify for an enrichment scholarship, a student must:
• Be a 10th or 11th grader in a public or private high school on St. Thomas, St. John or St. Croix
• Be accepted in/or have applied to a summer enrichment program
• Have an average cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
• Demonstrate financial need
Applications are available at the office of CFVI in Royal Dane Mall, on the Foundation's Web site: www.cfvi.net, or by calling 774-6031.
Priority is given to applicants who demonstrate extraordinary academic as well as community service oriented accomplishments. The quality of the enrichment program will also be an important consideration. The foundation emphasizes that these summer scholarships are available for a wide range of enrichment programs, including but not limited to, music, the arts, entrepreneurship and community leadership.
Applications must be submitted to CFVI no later than April 30, 2009, but applicants are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible. Applications will be considered as they are received.
