BMV Will Process Parking Permits for the Disabled

April 9, 2009 – The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will begin processing parking permits for persons with disabilities, effective Tuesday, April 14. All persons needing this permit will be required to purchase an application/medical form from the BMV and take it to a licensed physician who will qualify the applicant as being severely physically disabled and having permanent mobility problems that substantially impair his or her ability to ambulate or who is certified as legally blind, according to a release from the Director of the BMV, Jerris T. Browne.
Upon receipt of the signed application from the physician, the BMV will then issue the applicant the disabled permit.
The application fee is $2, and the disabled parking permit is $10. All police courtesies shall be extended to vehicles displaying the permit, inside the front windshield, directly in front of the driver, when said vehicle is parked in the specified restricted parking area.
For additional information on this process, the public is encouraged to call Ms. George on St. Thomas at 774-4268, Ms. Santana on St. Croix at 713-4268 or Ms. Callwood on St. John at 776-6262.
