St. John Film Society to Show Documentary

St. John Film Society will show "The Garifuna Journey," a 46-minute documentary by Andrea E. Leland and Kathy Berger, at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 7, at Sputnik's. Admission is free.
The film, made with the cooperation and participation of the Garifuna people, celebrates their enduring spirit. Descendants of the African and Carib Indians from St. Vincent, the Garifuna were never enslaved. They resisted British colonialism, and because of this, they were exiled to Central America where their distinct culture continues to exist today.

Also, local drummer Eddie Bruce will demonstrate some drumming techniques similar to those of the Garifuna. No coolers, please; refreshments will be available at the cash bar.
