Firearm License Renewal Amnesty Program Is in Last Days

March 27, 2009 – There are only a few days left for Virgin Islands residents to take advantage of the Firearms License Renewal Amnesty program that began on Jan. 19 and will end on March 31.
During the amnesty month, anyone who has a firearm and has not renewed the license can come into the bureau and renew without fear of repercussion. The usual late fee will be waived in some instances.
Any person with unregistered firearm can have their firearm registered if they meet the qualifications during the amnesty. Anyone who is found with unregistered firearm(s) after the program will be in violation and may lose their firearms license(s) privileges and may face prosecution. No first time application will be accepted during this period.
Firearms Bureau is also in the process of updating firearms records. Families of gun owners who have died and persons who previously stored their firearms with the Bureau are asked to contact Karen Stout, supervisor of the St. Croix Firearms Bureau at 778-2211 ext. 6058, or Elfreda Robinson, supervisor of the St. Thomas Firearms Bureau at 774-2211 ext. 5519.
