Brief: Social Security Beneficiaries to Receive Stimulus Money

March 23, 2009 — Virgin Islanders who receive Social Security benefits will get a one-time economic recovery payment of $250 from monies provided under the federal stimulus legislation, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
"The law provides for a one-time payment for individuals who receive Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Veterans benefits," Gov. John deJongh Jr. said in a release from his office Monday.
"If you were eligible for one of these benefits during the months of November 2008, December 2008 or January 2009, you may be eligible for the one-time payment," deJongh said. The Social Security Administration advised the governor’s office that recipients will receive the one-time payment by the end of May and that the economic recovery payment will be sent separately from monthly benefits checks.
Additional information about the economic recovery payments can be obtained at socialsecurity.gov.
