National African-American Youth Initiative Seeks Applicants for Summer Program

March 13, 2009 – Delegate Donna M Christensen has announced that the National African-American Youth Initiative (NAAYI) has begun accepting applications for students to attend their summer program for June 19-29.
The NAAYI program involves an intense schedule where students meet with prominent African-American leaders and role models; they are introduced to national health and scientific organizations and to the role of these organizations in the delivery of health care. Students will learn about health and science careers and educational opportunities in the government and in the private sector.
The program is designed for highly motivated youth who have an interest in pursuing a career in health or who wish to know more about health careers, and have the ability to work in a group setting with fellow teenagers from around the country.
NAAYI is a 10-day program held annually in Washington, D.C. It provides air and ground transportation, room and board. Chaperones are assigned to the students during their stay.
Students must be current freshmen, sophomores or juniors. Any students that are interested students must be nominated by a financial member of the Auxiliary to the National Medical Association (ANMA) or the NMA and submit the completed application, along with supporting documents, by the deadline of April 20. Send it directly to ANMA, 1012 Tenth St., NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. Applications are available from any of the Delegate's offices on St. Thomas at Suite 207, Nisky Center, and on St. Croix at Space No. 204 and 205, Sunshine Mall.
For additional information, call 202-371-9008 or visit the Web site at anmanet.org and click on the NAAYI logo.
