We Are All God's Children

Dear Source:

I'm responding to a letter that Ludvig Johansen wrote about the ban on gay marriage. In his letter, he wrote: "we must take a stand for what is right according to the bible." It seems that he is reading only the part of the bible that fits into his own personal feelings of hate.
Most freethinking people will tell you to interpret the bible, it should not be taken word for word. But at the same time, most Christians will tell you that we're all God's children. So in 2009, we all should be afraid of bigots like him. Does Mr. Johansen approve of putting one of God's children in slavery?
In Leviticus 25:44 "And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves." So based on that… it means he believes in going to the BVI and buying slaves, which would make him no better than a Ku Klux Klan member? Am I right… it's in the Bible?
God is not about hate… God is about love and tells those who follow him not to judge others. How, do I know? It's in The Bible. In Luke :35-:38 it says: "….Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven." It doesn't say unless they're gay.
When the Declaration of Independence was written it said that all men were created equally. Remember when they wrote it they had their own slaves. It took blacks and women generations to legally have they same human rights as white men. There were laws banning interracial marriages. Is he saying that we should revert back to that? The only agenda civil rights pushes is a human agenda… not a gay agenda. How many delegates are black, interracial, divorced, had affairs and got caught having those affairs? There were terrible laws making all the above second-class citizens. The Delegates who voted for this injustice are no better than the racist from the past who caused centuries of injustices.
In 2004, the late Coretta Scott King said, "Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriages." She went on to say Constitutional amendments should be used to expand freedom, not restrict it. Why? Because of the Christian principles the United States was founded on! This from the mother of Civil Rights! On February 24, 2009, the President of the NAACP said banning gay marriage interferes with a "fundamental freedom." Any sort of ban or restriction, he says, "poses a serious threat to all Americans."
There are over 1400 human rights you want to stop other people from legally getting by this one measure. This, I say to Mr. Johansen and the bigoted delegates, is just in-humane.
God Loves you too… how do I know? It's in The Bible.
