Territory's Students Ready to Square Off in Regional Science Bowl

March 4, 2009 – Students from several public, private and parochial schools will participate in the 2009 Regional Science Bowl, which takes place on Sunday, March 8. The preliminary rounds will take place from 1-4:30 p.m., at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa; the finals and award ceremony will be held at 7 p.m., at the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School. Participating schools include Charlotte Amalie High, Ivanna Eudora Kean High, St. Croix Central High, St. Croix Educational Complex, St. Croix Country Day School and the Good Hope School from St. Croix.
The Bowl is a high school competition where teams of students are quizzed on biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, general science and mathematics, according to Gerald Walters, St. Thomas-St. John District science coordinator and bowl coordinator.
"This year our theme is 'Reflecting the Past and Determining the Future.' The coaches have been working very hard with students to hone their skills, and we anticipate a very energetic competition. I would be remiss if I did not mention our very generous and long time corporate sponsor, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority. They have made it possible for us to continue this annual program, which is in its 12th year. We are grateful for their support and dedicated community service," said Walters.
