Robertson Resigns as Licensing and Consumer Affairs Commissioner

March 4, 2009 — Citing his desire to leave the job for "personal reasons," Kenrick Robertson has resigned as commissioner of Licensing and Consumer Affairs.
The governor accepted Robertson's resignation Wednesday, and nominated Wayne L. Biggs Jr. to fill the top slot, effective March 23. The full Senate will have to approve Biggs' nomination.
"I want to express my sincerest gratitude to Commissioner Robertson for his service to the people of the Virgin Islands," deJongh said in a statement Wednesday.
Robertson sent his resignation letter to the governor last month, saying he would continue to head the department until a "replacement is appointed and another position is identified for me." After serving as DLCA commissioner for the past two years, Robertson will continue to work for the government as a Justice Department attorney, according to a Government House news release.
Biggs, currently the director of Lending and Enterprise Zone at the Economic Development Authority, can also use his more than 20 years of experience with the Small Business Administration to keep a close watch on both gasoline and food prices in the territory, the release said.
"It is a central goal of the department to do all that is legally possible to ensure that our residents are not being overcharged for such commodity items," the governor said. "DLCA has been charged with keeping consumers informed as to where they can get the best buy for their hard-earned dollars."
Biggs has a master's degree in business administration from the University of the Virgin Islands and a bachelor of science degree from Bradley University. Before working at the Small Business Administration, he worked at the Education Department. Biggs is also a member of the V.I. Horse Racing Commission, the St. Croix Horse Racing Commission, the Human Resources Investment Council and the V.I. Workforce Investment Board.
