Pennsylvania Man Drowns Off Frederiksted Beach

Feb. 27, 2009 — Few details are known about the death of a 74-year-old Pennsylvania tourist who drowned Friday at a Frederiksted beach.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, may have had health problems, according to V.I. Police Department spokeswoman Melody Rames.
One person at the scene said about half a dozen onlookers spent about 15 minutes trying to revive the man after he was pulled out the water. An employee at the beach, trained in CPR, took over for another 10 minutes before an ambulance arrived, according to St. Croix resident Cy Levine.
At one point, it seemed as if the man had started breathing again, Levine said.
The exact cause of death would have to be determined by medical personnel, Rames said Friday.
