GERS Scholarships Applications Are Available

Feb. 20, 2009 – For the twelfth year, scholarships will be presented by the Government Employees' Retirement System to dependents of the GERS membership, according to a press release from GERS Administrator Austin Nibbs.
Funded through the GERS Investment Managers, a scholarship trust fund was established at in1992 for the benefit of dependents of GERS membership. The scholarships provide tuition support for four years to students enrolled in a full-time program leading to the award of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university.
Candidates for scholarships will be selected from qualifying graduates of the territory's high schools. Finalists will be selected from each island, St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. Up to three scholarships may be awarded.
To be eligible to apply, a student must be the child, step-child or legal dependent of a contributing member of GERS, be a graduating senior of a high school in the territory, and have a grade point average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All nominees must show financial need.
