Wyatt Heat, Speak the Word, Anchor Dive Pick Up Wins

Feb. 13, 2009 — The Bob Owen Slow Pitch Softball League’s defending champions Wyatt Heat seem to be getting into form as the league winds down after big wins against previously undefeated Softball inc. last week and the National Guard Hummers last night.
Wyatt Heat 16, Hummers 6
Wyatt Heat continued their winning ways by knocking off the National Guard Hummers in game one on Thursday by a score of 16-6. The defending champs are finally looking like themselves after knocking off two of the league’s top two teams in consecutive outings. It was the heat with 16 runs on 13 hits and two errors, while the hummers had six runs on 10 hits and one error. The winning pitcher was James Smith while Roman Cruz got the loss for the Hummers. Top hitters for the Heat were Max Velasquez 3 for 3 with three home runs and seven RBIs and Eric Perez, 2 for 2 with two home runs and two RBIs. For the Hummers, Kai Schjang was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs.
Speak the Word 14, Cartel 13
Speak the Word ministries edged the Cartel 14-13 in game two on Thursday in a hard fought contest between two middle-of-the-pack teams. Speak the Word plated 14 runs on 15 hits while committing two errors and the Cartel put across 13 runs on 11 hits and had three errors.
Ulric Benjamin pitched the victory for Speak the Word, while David McFarlane got the loss for the Cartel. Top hitters for Speak the Word were Sylvester McIntosh 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Raphael Almonte, 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Cartel, Daren Lewis went 4 for 4 with three home runs and seven RBIs.
Anchor Dive 14, Salty Sailors 8
Anchor Dive sank Salty Sailors 14-8 in the late game, in a battle of two of the lower echelon teams. It was Anchor Dive with 14 runs on 17 hits and three errors while Sailors plated eight runs on 12 hits and had two errors. Edwin Sankitts got the win on the hill for Anchor Dive and Rod Graci got the loss for Salty Sailors. Top batter for Anchor Dive was Danny Rodriguez who was 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs. For the Salty Sailors, Jeff Elvins was 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.
