Although I believe John deJongh to be a good Governor, I take exception to some of his remarks. I'll just list one of them.
"From the average citizen to members of the Legislature, would have to work together, make some serious sacrifices and put aside the things that divide us, in an effort to build a strong and bright future".
Act 6905 divides us. It gave the Senators, the Governor and Lt. Governor, serious pay raises, an act most of us feel was wrong and unlawful, yet "nothing" has been done to rectify this. Should we forget, it also gave the outgoing administration at the time (Turnbull), a major windfall in their pensions, which GERS can't afford.
We're facing a recession, shortfall of tax revenue, declining house values, etc. and nothing has been done at the top, yet we're asked to make sacrifices!
I suggest that the Government slash their salaries, pensions and workforce, before asking anything of the public. I believe, you show by example.
Also, I remember, when asked about act 6905, the Governors' remark was, "I want to look forward, not backward". Governor deJongh, that explanation doesn't "fly". As one of your supportors, I remain, Sincerely,
