Body Of Unidentified Woman Found In Cistern

Jan. 16, 2009 –- Little was known Friday about the death of a woman whose decomposed body was found in a cistern at an unoccupied home on St. Thomas.
Police are not "speculating" about how her badly decayed body ended up in the cistern with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police spokeswoman Melody Rames.
Police were called to the vacant house Wednesday after neighbors reported an "odor" emanating from the area, Rames said.
"Police don’t know the age or even the race of the individual," only that it was a female, she said.
It is hoped more will be known when Medical Examiner Francisco Landron completes the autopsy, Rames said.
