Haiti Community Support Will Hold Fundraiser

Haiti Community Support, a non-profit organization, is seeking donations for their annual Outdoor Fun Charity Auction scheduled for 2 p.m.-until, on Sunday, Jan. 18, on the beautiful grounds of Mount Victory Camp on Creque Dam Road in the Rainforest, Frederiksted.
Have a hobie cat or sailing dinghy you aren't using? A kayak gathering dust in storage? An ATV or dirt bike no longer being used? The camp is a perfect venue for selling large items. All sorts of out door goods can be donated such as swing sets, sail boards, outboard boats on trailers, a land cruiser, teak outdoor furniture and scuba gear. Other donation possibilities include small boats, outdoor goods like tents or scuba gear; ATV vehicles, motorcycles, jet skis and so on. The fundraiser will feature music, dancing and entertainment from Jamesie and the All Stars and the Haiti Drum Ensemble, as well as a Crucian pig roast. Tickets are $40 in advance at Pier 69, Gone Tropical, Rustico and Walsh Metal Works, or $45 at the door.
Five years ago, the organization began finding ways to help the children of remote, mountainous Au Centre, Haiti, where Director Mathilde Wilson was born and raised. Operating with donations from people in the Virgin Islands, an elementary school has been built, and hot lunches – often the only meal of the day – are being provided to 175 children in this impoverished village. They are now working on getting a clean water source for the village and a clinic to provide basic health care. Last year's event raised $40,000 for school and food programs.
The Outdoor Auction is a fun and profitable way to raise the $30,000 needed to build a first medical clinic in these impoverished villages. Residents of St. Croix are asked to donate good, used outdoor equipment that is in good working condition.
