Police Charge ATF Agent in September Shooting on St. Thomas

Jan. 7, 2009 — Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agent William G. Clarke was arrested Wednesday in connection with the September 2008 shooting death of Mahogany Run resident Marcus Sukow.
The V.I. Department of Justice has charged Clarke with one count of second-degree murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, and one count of using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a violent crime. (See "Marcus Dale Sukow Dies at 44.")
Police say Sukow was shot the morning of Sept. 7 in the Mahogany Run area, where Clarke was a resident. (See "One Dead in Shooting by Federal Officer.")
In accordance with an arrest warrant issued by V.I. Superior Court Judge Leon Kendall, Clarke turned himself into police without incident. Superior Court Judge James Carroll III has advised Clarke of his rights. Bail was set at $50,000. His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 15.
