WAPA Gives Update on Power Outage

Nov. 25, 2008 — Restoring power on St. Thomas and St. John was slow going Tuesday night.
"We'll be lucky to have power tonight," said Glen Rothgeb, chief operating officer for the V.I. Water and Power Authority.
The problem was the feeder units "went down hot," he said, which causes them to buckle. Rothgeb was hopeful that power would be restored Tuesday night, "but not until very late." Power had been restored to about one-third of St. Thomas as of 7 p.m., but restoration of the rest of the feeders was going to take some time, he said.
