DeJongh Congratulates Cy Thompson on Sailing Triumph

Nov. 3, 2008 – Governor John P. deJongh this weekend congratulated Cy Thompson on his win in the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Men's Singlehanded Nationals. As a sophomore sailing for Roger Williams University, Cy brought his college team its first singlehanded title in history. "Cy is living proof that the Virgin Islands is home to some of the best sailors in the world," deJongh said.
Thompson out-sailed his former Antilles school classmate, Thomas Barrows, of Yale University, who took the championship in 2007. "The Virgin Islands can claim both the first and fifth place winners at the 2008 Inter-collegiate Sailing Association's Men's Singlehanded Nationals, an unbelievable triumph for each sailor, their schools and the Virgin Islands," deJongh added.
DeJongh said Cy Thompson's name is now added to the list of great territorial athletes, which already includes his father, Chris Thompson. "I look forward to watching Cy's sailing career unfold, it is evident that he has found his passion in sailing and success will surely continue to come his way."
