The Selective College Admissions Process: What Contributes to Success?
At 7 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Kimelman Library, Dr. Robert Massa of Dickinson College will speak about the following essential topics:
"Colleges have personalities just like we do. The problem is that increased college marketing makes it difficult to see through the clutter.
The first step in the college selection process is for you, the student, to understand yourself–how you learn best and how you interact with others. Once you understand yourself, it is important to find how colleges approach teaching and learning–in and out of the classroom.
While there are many good colleges and universities that are selective, admission research has consistently shown no meaningful link between selectivity and the quality of learning. To find the best learning, you must look for the best teaching. "
Dr. Robert Massa is a veteran of over 34 years in college admissions. For a decade prior to becoming vice president at Dickinson in 1999, he was the dean of admissions and enrollment at Johns Hopkins University. His candid program will help you determine what really matters in the college selection process, how to find the right school for you, and how to distinguish yourself in that school's applicant pool.
All are welcome to all of these college-counseling events. No RSVP is necessary, unless you would like to schedule a personal interview with either the University of Miami or American University.
