Sept. 30, 2008 – The Department of Human Services has changed the name of the Financial Programs Division to the Division of Family Assistance, according to a press release from DHS.
Effective Oct. 1, the name change works to clarify long-standing confusion among clients, government agencies and the general public about provided services offered by the Financial Programs Division. The employees of the division participated in an objective nomination and rating of names that was later approved by Human Services Commissioner Christopher Finch. The change also coincides with the federal government's name change of the Food Stamp Program to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The programs offered through the Division of Family assistance will be maintained to include SNAP, the Job Opportunity and Basic Skills Program (JOBS), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Energy Assistance, Income Maintenance, as well as general social services.
All supporting public documents will bear the new division name.
