Wyatt Heat Burns Injectables 12-5 to Remain Unbeaten

July 4, 2008 — Wyatt Heat continued their mastery of the Governmental Coed Softball League Thursday with a 12-5 win against the Juan Luis Hospital Injectables to remain the only unbeaten team in the league.
The Injectables gave the loaded Wyatt Heat squad all it could handle for four innings, and the game was knotted at 2 going into the fifth. But the Heat’s bats came alive in the top of the fifth, and they were able to pull away for the win.
The game at the Renholt Jackson Sport Complex in Estate Whim saw the Heat score two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple by Jose Rivera and an RBI double by Enrique Soto. The Injectables were equal to the task, however, as they also picked up two runs in their half of the inning to knot the game at 2 at the end of one.
They scored two runs on RBI doubles by Dennis Brow and Raymond Cintron.
A pitching duel between the Heat’s ace, Rivera, and the Injectables’ crafty right-hander, Myron Johannes, ensued for the next three innings, and neither team could score. Johannes got into trouble in the top of the fifth inning when he walked the first two Heat hitters he faced. It would prove to be the beginning of the end for the Injectables. Seven runs had crossed the plate by the time the dust cleared in the top of the fifth, including three long home runs. Javier Encarnacion first blasted an opposite-field, three-run homer to get the ball rolling. Two solo shots by Rivera and Eric Perez followed. The other two runs came on Injectables errors, and the Heat now had a 9-2 lead. The Injectables tried to answer in the bottom of the inning, but could only muster three runs on Brow’s three-run blast over the left-field fence. The Injectables now trailed 9-5, but they would not score again.
The Heat added three more runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run single by Encarnacion and an RBI single by Tony Cruz to close out the scoring for the game and set the final score at 12-5.
Rivera pitched the complete game win for the Heat, while Johannes got the loss for the Injectables. Top hitters for the Heat were Encarnacion, 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIS, and Rivera, 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Injectables, Brow went 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Kenny Milligan went 2 for 4.
