April 9, 2008 – Senator Ottley States that: As a result of urban decay, our Down town communities have been characterized by high unemployment, fragmented families, crime and unfriendly landscapes.
In an effort to bring attention and resolution to the specific issue of abandoned properties, Senator Ottley is conducting a survey in an effort to address this growing concern in the Charlotte Amalie Down town communities. Senator Ottley stated that he has scheduled a walk through of the Garden Street community on Monday, April 14, 2008 with other communities scheduled in succession.
The purpose of the survey, Senator Ottley said, is to assess the inventory of abandoned properties in this and other communities and the possible hazardous and social impacts on adjoining properties and the community at large.
Senator Ottley has invited several key government officials and community organizations to participate in this process and invites the community to come out and participate as well. The tour will depart from the Sprauve Building (Old Dental Offfice) on Garden Street at 9 a.m. Please contact Kelvin Vanterpool at 693-3513 if you should have any questions.
