Endless Poss-e-bilities Beat the Thymes 16-11 in Extra Innings

Sept. 10, 2007 — Endless Poss-e-bilities erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth Sunday to beat the Thymes 16-11 in extra innings in women’s softball action.
Endless Poss-e-bilities trailed 11-8 going into the sixth, which the teams agreed would be the final inning because the time limit had expired. But they scored three runs to force the extra innings. In the extra innings, two of the league’s top veterans pitchers — Endless Poss-e-bilities’ Sherry Simmonds and the Thymes’ Jennifer Brady, both on in relief of their respective starters — went head to hear for what looked to be an exciting finish. But Simmonds was a little sharper, and she was able to pitch her team to the come-from-behind victory.
Batting first, Endless Poss-e-bilities scored seven runs in the top of the first on a two-run single by Kyshira Simmonds, RBI singles by Denise Baker and Helena James and three runs on Thymes errors to take the early lead. The Thymes answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning on a three-run single by Zahra O’Reilly, an RBI ground out by Gelisa James and bases-loaded walks drawn by Marisol Somme and Shay Roberts to trail 7-6 after one inning.
After Endless Poss-e-bilities failed to score in the top of the second, the Thymes tied the game at seven in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Brady. The Thymes then took the outright lead in the bottom of the third at 9-7 after Endless Poss-e-bilities again failed to score in the top of the inning. The Thymes score two runs on RBI singles by Jennell Petersen and Brady.
Endless Poss-e-bilities drew one run closer at 9-8 in the top of the fourth on Debra Sweeney’s RBI ground out, but the Thymes answered with a run of their own on an error by Endless Poss-e-bilities’ second baseman to lead 10-8 after four complete innings.
The Thymes extended their lead to 11-8 in the bottom of the fifth, picking up another unearned run on an error by Endless Poss-e-bilities’ shortstop.
With the time limit for the game just about expired, the umpire alerted both benches that the sixth inning would be the last. Trailing by three entering the inning, wildness by the Thymes’ pitcher allowed Endless Poss-e-bilities to score three runs to tie the game, all on bases-loaded walks drawn by Baker, Leah Davila and Diane Edwards. The Thymes failed to answer in the bottom of the inning and would not score the rest of the way.
After a scoreless seventh, Endless Poss-e-bilities then put the game away in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on two-run singles by Davila and Sherry Simmonds and an error on the Thymes shortstop for the 16-11 final.
Sherry Simmonds dominated in the extra innings to pick up the win, while Brady got saddled with the loss. Endless Poss-e-bilities was led offensively by Davila, who went 2 for 3 with three RBIs; Sherry Simmonds, 2 for 3 with two RBIs; and Kyshira Simmonds, 2 for 6 with two RBIs. For the Thymes, O’Reilly went 3 for 4 with three RBIs Brady 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Petersen 2 for 4 with one RBI.
