Just For Fun Crush Las Vegans in Five Innings

Sept. 1, 2007 — Defending champions Just for Fun (JFF) knocked off an opponent Friday night by way of the 10-run mercy rule for the second game in a row at Quarren Schjang field.
The seven-time defending champions crushed another perennial powerhouse, Las Vegans, by 15-5 when pitcher Myron Johannes lined a walk-off single up the middle for the run that sealed the game.
Batting first, the Las Vegans picked up an unearned run to take the early lead. JFF responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run shot by Eustace Davis and an error to take the lead after one inning.
They would not trail again.
Las Vegans picked up another run in the top of the second on an RBI ground-out by Tony Watts to trail 3-2. But JFF blew the game wide open in the bottom of the inning, plating six runs on a two-run shot by Guido Schjang, a solo shot by Reuben Malloy, a two-run double by Charles Brow and an RBI sacrifice fly by Davis to lead 9-3 at the end of two innings.
A solo blast by Dennis Brow in the top of the third brought the Las Vegans one run closer at 9-3.
After the Las Vegans failed to score in the top of the fourth, JFF came up with two unearned runs to extend their lead to eight at 11-3 after four complete innings.
Trying to avoid the mercy rule, the Las Vegans put across two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Irvin Simmonds and an RBI ground-out by Ramon Thomas, but it was not enough. JFF came up with four runs highlighted by Johannes' game winner.
Johannes scattered eights hits in picking up the win, while Rigillio Diaz took the loss for the Las Vegans.
Leading JFF offensively was Davis, 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs; Schjang, 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs; Brow 3 for 4 with two RBIs; and Malloy was 2 for 2 with a home run and one RBI.
For the Las Vegans Dennis Brow was 1 for 3 with a home run and one RBI, and Simmonds was 1 for 3 with one RBI.
