Aug. 23, 2007 — The rash of recent homicides on St. Croix continued as police on Thursday investigated a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man. Police are also looking into a shooting in Estate Williams Delight which injured two people.
Several concerned citizens called police around 1:07 a.m. after hearing shots fired in the La Grange area north of Frederiksted, according to police spokeswoman Monyka Johnigan. Police responded and found a man with gunshot wounds to the face and abdomen lying on a public road.
An ambulance arrived on the scene at approximately 1:25 a.m., but the man was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m.
The victim died at the hospital, Johnigan said.
Police are searching for a black Honda that may be involved in this shooting.
Police are also investigating a shooting Wednesday in the Williams Delight housing community which injured two persons.
Concerned area residents called police at 10:50 p.m. after hearing shots fired. Police responded to the scene but were subsequently advised that the two shooting victims were being treated at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center.
One victim sustained gunshot wounds to his upper left thigh, right arm, right shoulder, right cheek and chest area.
Johnigan said because the individual was being attended to by the medical staff, police were unable to obtain a description at that time.
The second victim was identified by police as Emmanuel Nesbitt. Nesbitt sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his back and a deep laceration to his right hand.
At the time of the incident Nesbitt was wanted on charges of first degree assault; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence; possession of ammunition; and mayhem and reckless endangerment in connection with a July 27 shooting near the Nazarene Church in Williams Delight which resulted in injury to one individual.
