Brief: VI Tourism Pairs with NY Yankees in New Promotion

Aug. 19, 2007 — Two Virgin Islanders with heads full of baseball arcana will be heading to the Big Apple courtesy of the New York Yankees and the V.I. Department of Tourism.
As part of a new promotional partnership, radio stations WSTA and Isle 95 are holding a radio baseball trivia contest. The winners of the contest, to be announced on the air Wednesday, will win a trip to New York City.
The Yankees and the Tourism department are also getting together to sponsor "U.S. Virgin Islands Day" at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 5. The first 18,000 fans over 21 years of age arriving to see the Yanks take on the Seattle Mariners will receive a USVI-branded sunglasses case containing a special offer to book travel here.
At other locations throughout the stadium, ads and information tables will tout the V.I. while "lucky seat" giveaways will give fans the chance to win a trip to The Buccaneer hotel on St. Croix during the game.
The stadium's DiamondVision screen will feature 30-second USVI commercial spots for each game through the remainder of the 2007 season.
“The New York metropolitan area is the number one market for the U.S. Virgin Islands, consistently drawing thousands of visitors to the destination each year,” said Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson Doty in a statement this week.
