Challenging 3-Day Outdoor Personal Development and Team Building Course

Aug. 15, 2007 – Sign up for three days of action packed fun, variety, challenge, teamwork and a host of new valuable skills at Antilles School's Jackson Complex Wellness Center from Friday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 19. Cost for the Eddie O'Brien Challenge Course is just $45 per person.
Goals of the course are to introduce Achieving Fitness, an adventure activity model; an introduction and refresher on the technical use of the challenge course; and curriculum design and consultation-infusing adventure.
If you are a physical education Ed or health teacher at middle school through university level, this course will offer you new ideas, innovative games and challenges, and the opportunity to push yourself well beyond your comfort zone. Youth group leaders and health and fitness professionals will all gain valuable skills while challenging both the mind and body over this three-day workshop. The schedule:
Friday, Aug. 17
This will be a non-challenge course day. It will, however, be an active day for participants to learn by doing, with some reflection and classroom time.
8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Convening Activities
Name games
Principles of Adventure-Challenge by choice, signing of the full value contract
Active games, ground activities
Community building activities
Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch Break
1-4 p.m.
Adventures in health related fitness
A sampling of activities through adventure – related to cardio, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition
Background theory and teaching methodology
Saturday, Aug. 18
This day uses ground activities and the low challenge course.
8 a.m. – noon
Adventures in health related fitness (session 2 – experiencing more activities)
Discussion strategies for implementation of the Achieving Fitness Model
Presentation/discussion of creating healthy habits: an adventure approach to teaching health and wellness
Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch Break
1-4 p.m.
Experience on low elements
Strategies for facilitation
Group management
Briefing and debriefing
Standard operating procedures
Sunday, Aug. 19
This day will be focused primarily on the use of the high challenge course.
8-11 a.m.
Warm Ups
Goal setting check in
High challenge course briefing
Belay instruction/verification
Knots/hardware/helmet/harness review
11 a.m. – noon: Lunch Break
Noon – 2 p.m.
Applying health related fitness to the high challenge course
Alternative instructional styles to maximize participation
Evaluations and reflections
