Dear Source:
The senate recently approved the Governor's crime bill authorizing some $68 million for the VIPD. That includes funding to fill 235 vacancies.
The VIPD constantly cites a manpower shortage yet they haven't even started an academy class to bring some of these new officers on the job. St. Croix's academy class is already under way. What's the holdup for St. Thomas/St. John? When are we going to see some progress towards bolstering the police force? How many of these new cops can we expect for St. John? Is the Coral Bay substation finally going to be fully staffed? Is St. John going to be staffed with St. Thomas cops or will we finally get some local police officers that can actually find a crime scene without getting lost?
