July 14, 2007 – Senator-at-Large Carmen Wesselhoft expressed her deepest condolences to the Liburd, Elskoe and Lockhart families on the loss of Faye Liburd.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of Mrs. Liburd's passing," Wesselhoft said. "I hope her family will take comfort in their many fond memories of her and in the knowledge that she is now at peace."
Wesselhoft said she had the deepest respect for Mrs. Liburd as a long time public servant, culture bearer and as the wife of a former senator, Almando "Rocky" Liburd.
"Rocky served as Senator-at-Large for many years and it is an extremely challenging position given that we must address the needs of citizens of all three islands," Wesselhoft said. "There are days when we have to be in Coral Bay, St. Thomas and Frederiksted. I know that Mrs. Liburd admirably held her family and household together so that her husband was able to serve the people of the Virgin Islands in this difficult capacity."
"Faye will truly be missed in this community," Wesselhoft said. "But I know her family and many friends will keep her alive in their hearts and minds."
The Senator-at-Large said that her family and Legislative staff joined her in conveying their heartfelt sympathy to the extended Liburd, Elskoe and Lockhart families.
