Grand Display of Fireworks, Music, Food and More Planned for Fourth of July

June 23, 2007 – The skies over Frederiksted will explode with a grand display of fireworks in celebration of Independence Day on July Fourth.
The Frederiksted Economic Development Association (FEDA) has taken up the charge to organize this year’s Fourth of July Independence celebration. The association says it will be a family affair with lots of music, vendors and treats for the children.
A grand display of fireworks will start at 8:30 p.m. launched from the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility pier making the entire Frederiksted shoreline the perfect front-row seats for the festivities.
FEDA member Unise Tranberg said launching the fireworks from the pier will give residents "a more panoramic view" which can be seen from the Vincent F. Mason Sr. Coral Resort in the south to Hams Bay in the north. The fireworks will last approximately 25 minutes and promises to be a "larger and more spectacular" display than in years past, according to Tranberg.
She urged residents to make reservations early at beachside and waterfront restaurants, for example, from Sandcastles on the Beach all the way through Frederiksted to the Sunset Grill.
The evening begins at 8 p.m. in Buddhoe Park with music from every era played by St. Croix Big Band. Ambience along the waterfront will be festive: a host of vendors will be selling hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and other treats and toys for children. Music and entertainment for the whole family will be provided.
"This is the first year FEDA has organized this activity," said President Rupert Ross Jr., adding, "We've moved the fireworks from St. Croix Country Club to the pier so there is more visibility. We hope to continue improving on this activity each year."
Ross said several organizations have partnered with FEDA to produce the activities including Hovensa, the St. Croix Country Club, Richards and Ayer Real Estate, the V.I. Public Finance Authority, Bartner Group LLC, Tropical Shipping, Gil and Frank Hurite and Rotary West along with other community donors.
Vendors wishing to participate are asked to call FEDA at 773-3332 for more information.
