The Elmo Plaskett East 9-10 All-Stars dominates West All-Stars

June 17, 2007 — The Elmo Plaskett East 9-10 All-Stars continued their dominance over their West end counterparts by sweeping them in the weekend St. Croix championships, two games to none. The East won both games by blasting their way to two ten-run mercy ruled wins.
On Friday the easterners used a nine run fourth to beat the West, 15-5. On Saturday it was a dominating pitching performance from Leonardo Castillo and an early offensive onslaught that did in the West to the tune of 11-1.
The East started fast in the top of the first inning by exploding for 10 runs. They batted around in the inning with their 10 runs highlighted by two RBI singles by Romani Hansen, and RBI singles by Daren Stevens and Dejohn Hardy. It would prove to be more than enough runs for their starting pitcher, Castillo.
The West scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Jamori Venzen, but that was all of their offense.
The East went on to score the final run of the game in the top of the fourth on Deondre Simmonds’ RBI single for a final score of 11-1.
Castillo pitched a strong game to pick up the series clincher for the East, while Raymond Sankitts got the loss for the West. Top hitters for the East were Romani Hansen, 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Darren Stevens was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. For the West, Venzen was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
The action continues next weekend at the Renholt Jackson Sport Complex when the St. Thomas champions come to St. Croix to play for the right to represent the territory in little League’s Latin American and Caribbean Championships.
