Frederiksted Car Show Will Offer Father's Day Fun

June 14, 2007 — Stumped for a Father's day gift? Why not take the whole family and Dad to the Father's Day Car Show this Sunday at the Paul E. Joseph Stadium in Frederiksted?
Indulge Dad's passion for the fast and the furious, classic car styles and sleek modern technology. Imagine Dad, with the kids in tow, checking out the engines, peering in the windows, admiring the variety of cars, trucks and motorcycles — all polished to such a high gloss that the sun makes little rainbows as it bounces off the paint.
Charles Ward of Blendah Production is the brainchild of the planned annual event, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in the West. A connoisseur of cars, Ward has traveled to several Caribbean islands to attend cars shows. "They are really big," he said. Ward figured this would be a good event to have on St. Croix, something different that would appeal to a wide variety of folks.
This is the first event for Ward's production company. In addition to hosting a fun, family-type event, he is also giving back to the community through a donation to the Queen Louise Home for Children.
Juanita Lawson-Haith, public relations director for the home, said the event is a positive one. "It's a very good idea," she said. "Charles is a concerned citizen whose heart seems to be in the right place."
In addition to presenting the home with a monetary donation after the event, Ward has invited the home's children to attend the car show free of charge, including the inflatable bouncer, also known as a moon walk. "They can go in into the bouncer for free and have fun, too," Ward said.
Although the event will have a lot to keep the little ones occupied, the older attendees will not get left out of the fun. Several door prizes will go to lucky winners, Ward said, including some "bling" for your ride — four sets of rims in 18- and 20-inch sizes. Another door prize is a complete set of Black and Decker tools, along with several other surprise gifts. "I don't want to reveal everything," Ward said, adding that he wants to leave the audience in suspense until the last moment.
The cars will be judged in a variety of categories, with enough trophies for all. "There are a lot of trophies," Ward said, again holding the precise number close. What he did reveal however, is that the trophy for King of the Car Show is a gigantic six-feet tall.
Entertainment will be provided by D.J. Sygon from St. Croix and D.J. Avalanche from St. Thomas, along with the Fusion Band and the UMB Soldiers. Admission is $4 for children and $8 for adults.
