CFVI Announces 2007 Mini-Grant Recipients

June 8, 2007 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) awarded $24,639 to 28 projects in the 2007 CFVI Mini-Grants program. These grants, ranging from $250 to $1,000, are provided for innovative programs that seek to improve the lives of children and families on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John, according to a press release from CFVI's President Dee Baecher-Brown.
Now in its eleventh year, the Mini-Grant program has provided more than a quarter million dollars in grants to 487 programs designed by community organizations and individuals.
The Mini-Grants support the foundation's mission to enhance the educational, physical, social, cultural and environmental well being of children, youth and families in the V.I. They support a wide range of service organizations and individuals working to provide positive alternatives for children and families and help meet social challenges, including child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, drug abuse and illiteracy.
2007 recipients include: from St. Croix, the St. Croix Farmers in Action, supporting their upcoming Liberty Day Festivities; from St. Thomas, The Family Resource Center, providing first aid training in infant, child and adult CPR/AED for the center's shelter staff; and from St. John, the Friends of the Elaine Sprauve Library, supporting a summer program where youth will research the history of St. John while improving their writing skills through journal entries and the creation of individual family trees.
Generous donations from CFVI Angel donors and The Prosser ICC Foundation provide funding for this annual program. As a result of the efforts of many caring community members, the youth and families of the V.I. benefit immeasurably.
