Public Information Meeting on Cruz Bay Road Project

Public Information Meeting – Thursday, June 21, 2007
TO ANNOUNCE IMMENENT START OF CONSTRUCTION OF
Traffic Roundabout

Cruz Bay, St. John, United States Virgin Islands

Proposed Project:
The Government of the Virgin Islands of the United States, Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are finalizing plans for construction of a traffic roundabout and intersecting streets in Cruz Bay. This project is located at the intersection of Route 10 (Centerline Road), Route 104 (Southside Road), Route 104 and Route 201. The roundabout will generally be located on the site of the former Texaco Service Station. This work has been identified as Project VI NH-9999(117). Public meetings have previously been held during the planning/design stage of this project. Input provided by the public has been included in the current final design. All right-of-way acquisition has been completed. This project includes demolition of the gas station, construction of the roundabout, reconstruction of the aforementioned roads as they intersect with the proposed roundabout, sidewalks, handicap ramps, crosswalks, curbs and utility adjustments to accommodate the new roadway. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 2007.
Public Information Meeting:
A public information meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, June 21, 2007 between the hours of 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM in the Legislature Conference Room, 109 Contant Enighed (former Hilltop Building) in Cruz Bay, St. John. The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with information regarding the scope, timing and phasing of the proposed roadway construction project. Of particular importance for this information meeting is DPW’s desire to provide information regarding this project’s provisions for accommodating individuals with disabilities. The DPW will provide a project overview presentation beginning at 6:30 PM. A short question and answer session will follow the presentation. Information will be shared regarding the project’s temporary impact on vehicular and pedestrian access and circulation. Representatives of DPW and FHWA will be available to informally discuss specific issues and answer questions during the open forum portion of the meeting.
Design plans and general information regarding the proposed project will be available for viewing and to aid in discussing details of the possible effects on adjacent properties. All interested citizens, interest groups and businesses are invited to attend the public information meeting. The public information meeting provides a setting in which the DPW can present the proposed project to all interested parties. Beginning on June 12, 2007 the plans and notices to be presented at the public meeting will be available online at www.efl.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/public%20notices/index.htm .
