Intruder Fatally Shoots Smith Bay Man Inside Home

June 4, 2007 — A 53-year-old man was killed early Monday morning after a gunman opened fire inside his Smith Bay home.
Dale O. Samuel was shot to death about 1:33 a.m. Monday. Samuel and his female companion were at their residence, located behind Domino Gas, when they heard knocking at the door, said Police spokeswoman Shawna Richards.
“The victim went to the door but there was no answer,” Richards said in a statement released Monday afternoon. “An unidentified male armed with a gun entered the home and started firing.”
Samuel sustained a single gunshot wound to the back. The female companion had run to a back room of the house, Richards said. According to preliminary reports to police, the gunman discharged two shots before Samuel fell to the floor. Officers dispatched to the scene found him lying motionless there, she said.
Samuel’s killing marks the 11th homicide on St. Thomas so far this year and the 15th territory wide.
Police ask anyone with information to contact investigators at 715-5544 or 911.
