June 1, 2007 – Today, Senate Vice-President and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Education, Culture & Youth, Senator Shawn-Michael Malone thanked Kevin Cogan, president of Alert 1 International, Inc., for his company's donation of a security camera to Day Adult Education.
In a letter to Mr. Cogan, Senator Malone said, "As a primary sponsor of Act 6728, to increase the fine for school vandalism, I understand the importance of protecting our educational facilities. Therefore, I was very impressed with your efforts to provide the Day Adult Educational building with some of your company's security equipment."
Since his election to the 25th Legislature, Senator Malone has been a strong advocate for improving our educational system. Through his "Reading to Achieve" Book Club Program, several pieces of legislation and stewardship of the Senate's Committee on Education, Culture & Youth, Malone has garnered significant community support for the education of our children. In his letter, he further said, "I sincerely believe that it will take a concerted community effort to raise our educational standards in the Virgin Islands. Through your donation, you have certainly reaffirmed your commitment not just to improving our educational system, but also our territory's economic sustenance. You have joined with the countless other businesses that continue to give selflessly to our public school system."
"I am really happy that another one of our educational facilities has been outfitted with surveillance equipment. Hopefully, it will be guarded against senseless acts of vandalism. Again, I thank Kevin Cogan and the entire Alert 1 family," Malone concluded.
