STEM Fair Winners Announced at UVI

May 19, 2007 — There were wild whoops and high-fives as the winners of the 2007 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Fair were announced on Friday afternoon at the UVI Sports & Fitness Center.
It was the second day of the fair, which featured work from St. Thomas-St. John District public, private and parochial schools. Students displayed projects and performed live demonstrations for the judges on Thursday and for the public on Friday morning.
Categories for the projects included: Science Experiment, Science Model/Demonstration, Engineering, Math-Real World Problems, Math Abstract Problems, Individual and School Web Page, Programming, Desktop Publishing and Video Presentations.
Renaldo Wheatley, one of the fair’s organizers and technology coordinator for the district, said, “The fair gives the public and each other a chance to see just exactly what we are doing in school.”
The other two STEM coordinators were Gerald Walters and Ludence Romney. As they
awarded the winners their trophies, they were joined on the stage by acting St. Thomas-St. John District Superintendent Lisa Hassell-Forde, who congratulated each and every winner.
