National EMS for Children Day Proclaimed by Governor

May 19, 2007 – Governor John P. de Jongh Jr. has proclaimed Emergency Medical Services for Children Day in the United States Virgin Islands. EMS for children supports community-based public service, whose presence is vital to children in need, according to a press release from Government House.
The needs of children are different than the needs of adults in medical emergencies. These services for children promote high-level care given by EMS providers with pediatric emergency skills, who are unceasingly prepared to respond and restore children who access the system to optimum levels of health.
EMS for children assists in the implementation of training for use of advanced technical equipment and services in preparation to save the life of a child.
It is proper and timely to bring recognition to the value and accomplishments of such dedicated men and women by designating emergency Medical Services for Children Day.
