Brief: VIPD Officer Suspended During Domestic-Violence Investigation

May 18, 2007 — An unnamed officer in the St. Thomas-St. John district has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an investigation regarding allegations that he assaulted a former girlfriend on Thursday.
Police Commissioner James McCall confirmed the suspension Friday, according to a Police news release. No details of the alleged assault have been released.
In accordance with V.I. Police Department policy and collective-bargaining procedures, the officer will relinquish his badge and police-issued firearm and identification until the investigation is complete. Criminal and internal investigations are being conducted into the incident, the news release said.
