2007 Miss Virgin Islands Pageant Will Be Held

May 13, 2007 – The Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Organization Inc. will hold its fourth annual scholarship pageant to find 2007 Miss Virgin Islands. The official state pageant of the Miss America organization will take place at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 19, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
The 1990 Miss America, Debbye Turner, will host this year's pageant, and the soul stirring song-stylist Evangeline Parker will headline the entertainment. In addition, 2006 Miss Virgin Islands Stacy Smith will perform along with special guests, 2006 Miss South Dakota Callee Bauman and 2007 Miss University of Arkansas Allison Waldrip.
Four young ladies from the V.I. will be vying for the title of 2007 Miss Virgin Islands: Shamika Thomas, Nicole Alexander, Janeisha John and Karolyn Felix. They will participate in an Interview competition on Friday, May 18, at Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Marriott's Beach Resort. On pageant night, they will compete in swimwear, physical fitness, talent and evening gown.
More than $20,000 in scholarships will be awarded to the contestants. The next Miss Virgin Islands will receive the $10,000 J. Epstein Scholarship award to attend the college or university of her choice. The first runner up will receive $5,000 in scholarship awards. Each non-finalist will receive $1,500 in scholarship awards. Many other scholarships will also be awarded. One of the key criteria for enrollment in the pageant is that each contestant must be committed to seeking higher education. All funding awards are made directly to the institution of higher learning.
Tickets can be purchased at: V.I. Bridal and Tuxedo, Parrott Fish, Modern Music, Home Again, Draughting Shaft, Connections on St. John, and the UVI Bookstores on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
