Alert: Bomb Threat at Hovensa Closes Roads to the Refinery

May 11, 2007 – All public roads that access the gates to Hovensa Refinery have been closed as the result of a bomb threat.
Hovensa Vice President Alex Moorhead stated that sometime before 8 a.m. Friday morning, the V.I. Police Department notified the company that, at 7:27 a.m. a 9-1-1 operator received a a call from an unidentified person who said there was a bomb at the refinery.
Moorhead said in a release from Hovensa that a search of the refinery is being conducted on an expedited basis for any unusual or out of place object. "The operation of the refinery is being continued while this search is being conducted," Moorhead said.
Meanwhile, he said the V.I. Police closed the roads.
Moorhead said Hovensa will coordinate with the Police to reopen the roads to employees of Hovensa and its contractors as soon as possible.
