Mary 1, 2007 – Students from local chapters of the Virgin Islands Future Business Leaders of America will host their Sixth Annual Walk America Walk-A-Thon. Registration will begin at 6 a.m., on Saturday, May 5, in support of March of Dimes, the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute, the Dorothy Walcott FBLA fund, and chapter activities. The group hopes to raise $7,500, as well as help increase awareness and raise funds for research. Make a pledge of $15 (three rolls of dimes) to support them. Registration will be at the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center, formerly St. Croix Vocational School. Participants will travel a distance of 7.4-miles to the Vincent Mason Resort (Frederiksted Pool), where participants will participate in a beach clean up and picnic. Six community service hours will be awarded to students in need of service hours.
The March of Dimes Campaign is a multimillion-dollar research, awareness, and education effort that helps families have healthier babies. The Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute on St. Thomas is a collaborative, regionally based Caribbean cancer program. The Dorothy Walcott FBLA Fund was created in the memory of a deceased adviser and to help students defray costs associated with their participation in national activities.
For more than 40 years, the V.I. FBLA has helped high school, middle-level, and post secondary students successfully make the school-to-career transition. FBLA produces individuals with character, leadership and good citizenship.
