Fireworks to Burn Bright Once Again During Carnival Finale

April 19, 2007 — The traditional fireworks finale to Carnival is being revived this year, according to a release from the V.I. Carnival Committee.
The fireworks program, slated for Saturday, April 28 at 9 p.m., is dedicated as a salute to the V.I. National Guard and will be produced by the world-renowned Grucci family of Brookhaven, N.Y.
Staged from a barge located in the inner-harbor cove between Frederiksberg Point (old pump house) and King’s Wharf (Legislature grounds), the 26-minute fireworks display is being produced by St. Thomas-based Left Lane Productions.
“We’re very pleased and grateful to WICO (West Indian Co. Ltd.) and Tropical Shipping for their investment in the fireworks, an integral part of Carnival, which had to be discontinued in recent years due to budget constraints,” said Caswil Callender, VICC's executive director.
The VICC also acknowledged the support of Boyson Inc. for its role in the fireworks display.
“Where you watch the show is going to be important,” according to Steve Bornn, production manager. The best spots to fully enjoy the show are downtown at Carnival Village and its adjacent waterfront area, not from the mountainsides.
Some boats normally anchored in the area will be required to relocate for a brief period. No boats will be allowed within the firing zone unless authorized.
