Brief: Wellness Workshop to Offer Health Tips for Seniors

March 15, 2007 — Getting older isn't as easy as collecting birthdays. As health technology and disease-prevention techniques advance, it's important for seniors to stay in the know.
With that in mind, the Department of Human Services has planned a wellness workshop for Friday, March 30 entitled, "Cultural Health Issues Among Seniors." The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Divi Carina Bay Resort in St. Croix.
The workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including the most prevalent medical problems among seniors in the territory. Health officials will also talk about developing healthy habits, kicking habits detrimental to graceful aging and the dangers of mixing multiple medications.
Information on the State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program will also be provided.
Guest speakers include Dr. Ceila Victor, clinical compliance director at DHS; Yvonne-Washington Turay, family nurse practitioner at DOH; and Dr. Letitia Henry, preventive care specialist at UVI’s Cooperative Extension Service.
The workshop is free and offered in English and Spanish.
