Alert: Broken Water Line on Main Street Causes Major Problems

March 9, 2007 – The V.I. Water and Power Authority announced Friday morning that a major water line break on Main Street has interrupted water service to Raadet's Gade, Synagogue Hill, Long Path and nearby areas.
The repairs to the break, which was discovered Thursday night, are expected to be completed by midnight Friday, according to a release from WAPA.
The Enid Baa Library was closed for the day, and classes at the Adult Day School on Commandant's Gade were canceled as a direct result of the lack of water to downtown.
In an effort to avoid safety hazards to residents and tourists who will visit Main Street on Friday, repairs will not begin until 6 p.m., WAPA spokeswoman Cassandra Dunn said in the release.
"Every effort will be made to complete repairs and restore water service as quickly as possible," Dunn said.
As the pumps are returned to service, customers may notice slight discoloration of the water as naturally occurring oxidized particles on the interior of the pipes may dislodge and become suspended. Consumers are urged to limit their water use early Saturday morning to allow these solids to settle.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to obey traffic directions while repairs are under way.
