Affordable (?) Housing on St. John

Dear Source:
This project does not represent affordable housing. Most individuals in this community, especially women, are single heads of households with salaries far below the amount cited in this article that will necessitate a monthly mortgage payment of $2200. This is not affordable given the average income of the members in this community. People must realize that the salaries paid to the employees, who basically represent Government workers, in no way comes close to what is needed for this project. The average employee – government or otherwise – is not a senator, commissioner, assistant or deputy commissioner or any one of the heads of independent instrumentalities. Therefore, it is quite obvious that these "affordable houses" are not for the residents of this community, but rather for a group that does not exist here right now. Again, the residents are being priced out of the housing market as they can neither afford to purchase land, build houses or participate in "affordable housing" programs being put forth by developers, our government (HFA) and our senators who sanctions this project and gives it their stamp of approval.
