Children's Race Returns to Fairgrounds

Feb. 19, 2007 — After a two-year absence, the Fair Race for Children returned to the Agriculture and Food Fair, with top honors going to Felix Navarro, Karen Descent, Malique Smith and Mikaela Smith.
Sponsored by the V.I. Pace Runners, the race takes place at the annual fair. Children 13 and younger are invited to take part in the opening activities of the fair by running a 1,000-meter race. Runners from the St. Croix Track Club and Eulalie Rivera Elementary School dominated the race, with Felix Navarro of SCTC taking first place overall with a time of 3:04.
Malique Smith of SCTC finished second overall and he was the first runner under 10 years old, with a time of 3:24. Jamari White of ERES came in third in 3:47, John Prince ERES was fourth in 3:59, Jelani Prince ERES came in fifth in 4:11, Michael Bynoe ERES was sixth in 4:38 and Yannik Walters ERES finished seventh in 9:08.
Karen Dascent of the St. Croix Track Club was the first-place girl overall with a time of 3:57. Mikaela Smith SCTC was second overall, and the first girl under 10, in 4:11. Sterfanie Smith of SCTC was third in 4:18, Shayane Reed ERES finished fourth in 5:33 and Yanika Eastman ERES came in fifth in 9:08.
