Bucs Win at Home, Lose on the Road
The UVI Buccaneers men's basketball team defeated the University of Central Bayamon 80-71 in a home game on Thursday, Feb. 8. Both the men's and women's squads took to the road over the weekend playing UPR Bayamon. The Lady Bucs lost 71-48, while the Buccaneers men's squad lost 78-66. Both squads return to Puerto Rico this week, with games slated on Feb. 16 and 17. The next UVI basketball home games are scheduled for Feb. 23, when the Lady Bucs and the Buccaneers play host to UPR-Humacao. Broadcast Journalist Hunter-Gault to Speak Feb. 14 at Heath Series
Award-winning journalist and long-time foreign correspondent Charlayne Hunter-Gault will be the featured speaker at the 2007 Alfred O. Heath Distinguished Speakers Lecture Series, set for 6 p.m. on Feb. 14, on UVI's St. Croix campus. The session will take place in Evans Center room 401 with a videoconference connection to Chase Auditorium (room B-110) on the St. Thomas campus. St. Thomas Campus Bookstore to Sell Flowers on Valentine's Day
The UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus will sell flowers on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14. Pick-up orders, as well as on-campus deliveries, will be available. Arrangement prices will range from $7 to $60. For more information, call 693-1571.

Jay Wiltshire to Chair UVI Community Engagement (Carnival) Committee
Jay Wiltshire has been named chair of the 2007 UVI Community Engagement (Carnival) Committee. "I'm looking forward to working with the committee and participants to make this year's Carnival adult parade entry better than ever. UVI will have a fully engaged student body and will bring a lot of Carnival excitement to both campuses as we prepare our entry." For details, contact Wiltshire at 693-1110.

GERS Retirement Workshop Schedule Available Online
UVI employees enrolled in the V.I. Government Employees Retirement System are advised that a retirement workshop schedule is now available online. Included are sessions on pre-retirement, estate planning, financial planning and a count down to retirement. The first pre-retirement workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 14, on St. Thomas and Wednesday, Feb. 21, on St. Croix. A workshop is scheduled for March 6 on St. John. Details and the complete schedule of sessions that are planned throughout the year are available from the UVI web site's Bulletin Board – www.uvi.edu.

UVI Bookstores Set Deadlines to Order Academic Regalia
UVI's 43rd annual commencement ceremonies are scheduled for May 14 on St. Thomas and May 15, on St. Croix. Monday, Feb. 26, is the deadline for St. Thomas campus faculty and staff to place regalia orders. (The deadline for student orders was Feb. 9.) Late orders will incur additional costs. Contact the Bookstore at 693-1561. Monday, March 5, is the deadline for students, faculty and staff to place regalia orders on the St. Croix campus. Late orders will incur additional costs. Cooks, Volunteers Sought for Afternoon of the Green
Cooks – with their favorite dishes – and volunteers are sought for the 2007 edition of UVI's Afternoon on the Green. The annual food, fun and family event is scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, on the St. Thomas campus golf course. Dishes may also be entered in the public judging competition. This year's theme is "It's Celebration Time: Afternoon on the Green has Officially Turned 18!" General volunteers, especially those with valid health cards, are also being sought. Student Rap Session on Safe Sex Planned on St. Thomas Campus
A "rap session" for students on safe and smart sex is scheduled at 9 p.m. on Feb. 16, in the Health Services Building on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Students are invited to share their views with others. Information is available from the Health Services Office at 693-1124.

Intramural Basketball Begins Feb. 13 on St. Croix Campus
